Savannah Hanson
Savannah is the Youth Engagement and Projects Officer at ConnectFutures, a Birmingham-based CIC working on preventative approaches to violent extremism, hate and online harms. She set up the company's first Youth Advisory Board, using an asset-based approach to coordinate youth input into policy and practice on education, online safety and civic participation. As a facilitator, Savannah has worked across the UK and internationally, leading workshops for teachers and practitioners on how to navigate difficult but necessary discussions with young people on topics like disinformation, community conflict and gender expectations. Most recently she contributed this expertise to two Department for Education projects developing resources for teachers on discussing contentious topics in the classroom. Savannah is a big advocate for youth-led, participatory approaches to teaching - rooted in dialogical and problem-posing education, where young people are co-investigators in their own learning rather than passive recipients of it. She serves as a Trustee at Better Futures Multi-Academy Trust, supporting sixth-form colleges across the Midlands with their transition to student-led learning. Savannah brings to this panel a commitment to youth agency and a belief that good policy on boys' education needs to start with listening to boys themselves.
