Peter Hyman is a former teacher and headteacher, political strategist, social entrepreneur and writer. He is currently advising the Milburn review working on how best to support the one million young people who are NEET.
For the past two years he has been senior advisor to Sir Keir Starmer and a key figure in the landslide General Election victory. He was the architect of the five national missions which is shaping the agenda for the new government.
Peter worked for Sir Tony Blair for nine years including 6 in Number 10, as speechwriter, and Head of the Prime Minister’s Strategic Communications Unit. More recently he was senior advisor to Keir Starmer.
Peter moved from politics to education, working first as a teaching assistant, then training as a history teacher before becoming a headteacher and co-founder of School 21 and School 360 pioneering schools in East London.
He co-founded Voice 21, a charity which now works in more than 1200 schools across England, developing oracy – speaking skills –in young people.
Peter is the author of 1 out of 10, from Downing Street Vision to Classroom Reality, co-author of the recent report: Inside the Mind of a 16-Year-Old. He is also the author of a weekly Substack, Changing the Story.
