Dr Sophie King-Hill

Associate Professor at University of Birmingham specialising in sexual behaviours and author of Reframing Masculinity for Young Men and Boys: We’re in this Together.

Dr. Sophie King-Hill is an Associate Professor in the Health Services Management Centre at the University of Birmingham. She specialises in sexual behaviours and assessment in children and young people, sexual health, sibling sexual behaviour and abuse, masculinity, relationships and sex education and the importance of youth voice.

Much of her work is cross-sector, cross-disciplinary and centred around participatory and co-design approaches with young people. Sophie has conducted extensive research on masculinity and is the author of the book Reframing Masculinity for Young Men and Boys: We’re in This Together. Her work consistently engages with issues of gender, power and social norms and their impact on young people’s lives and experiences. She also has a strong interest in policy implementation, transfer, and success frameworks, alongside evaluation strategies. 

Sophie is also a Policy Fellow with the UK Cabinet Office, contributing to the Safer Streets Mission. This role focuses on translating research into policy impact, particularly in relation to safety, prevention and gender informed approaches .Prior to her academic career, Sophie worked extensively in the third sector in the field of education and sexual health, supporting a wide range of groups including teenage parents and young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Her work is grounded in both practice and research, with a consistent emphasis on improving outcomes for children and young people.
