Dr Jasmine Kelland is an Associate Professor in Human Resource Management at the University of Plymouth. With over 70,000 fathers in UK prisons, Dr Kelland has been exploring the experiences of Fathers in UK prisons.

Recent research conducted by University of Plymouth academics uncovers the traumatic reality of the “invisible father” and the powerful informal peer networks these men are building to maintain their emotional resilience. As a result, there has been a call for a “systemic shift” that prioritises family ties as the ultimate catalyst for successful rehabilitation and breaking the intergenerational cycles of crime.
